SUBMISSION TO THE CLIMATE CHANGE COMMISSION DRAFT ADVICE
The New Zealand Airports Association ("NZ Airports") supports the Climate Change Commission’s overarching approach to decarbonising New Zealand’s transportation sector through its focus on changes that are technologically possible at this time.
We note the essential role that international and domestic aviation plays in providing New Zealand’s economic prosperity and social connections. We also highlight the technological and economic challenges to decarbonising aviation, and set out how the airport sector will play its part.
NZ Airports supports:
• Continuing to use the ETS as the main policy lever to decarbonise activities in New Zealand,
• New Zealand’s continuing participation in the CORSIA scheme
• Continuing with the aviation emissions action plan administered by the Ministry of Transport, and a policy framework that provides clarity and stability to the sector.
