Minister keen on corporatising regional airports
The Taranaki Daily Times has reported that Transport Minister Steven Joyce is looking at corporatising joint venture regional airports. The Minister was commenting on a proposal that New Plymouth Airport become an airport company, able to raise its own capital to fund development.
The Government was not planning to sell its 50 percent share. The Minister said that in time the structure could allow for outside shareholders to come in but that hadn’t been discussed as yet.
Mr Joyce said that the corporatisation offer would be offered to all jointly owned regional airports around New Zealand if they wanted to take it up. Contribution by both partners towards development had been a cause of conflict in the past.
